Proper installation of commercial electronic equipment aboard a military platform is dependent on receiving accurate and sufficient documentation in a timely manner. This source information is divided between the equipment specification (B-Spec) and the Interface Control Document/Installation Control Drawing (lCD). From the simple installation of commercial equipment into a relay rack inside a climate-controlled shelter to incorporation of ruggedized military equipment into the complex confines of a jet fighter operating in a harsh environment, the lCD guides tr.e Installation Engineer through a maze of equipment versions and options. The lCD must address ail acoustic I electronic /optical I safety I human factors I environmental I mechanical interfaces. The lCD typically specifies methods of cooling and mounting, limits on powering, control signal description, radio interference limits, suggested mating connector/ backshell part numbers, unit size and sway space, and weights and balances. It must also concern itself with maintenance access, cryptographic key-fill, visibility of indicators, and interconnection of accessories.
