This paper discusses the narrowband/wideband mix of potential interferences to GPS and describes the results of a recent successful technology demonstration which established the efficacy of a precorrelation temporal filter solution to narrowband interference. In addition to describing the theory of operation of the temporal filter solution and its interference suppression performance in laboratory tests, this paper discusses potential dual use applications of the Air Force/Mayflower precorrelation temporal filter. It is anticipated that the unintentional interference problem in commercial GPS applications is characteristic of narrowband interference, and therefore it can be fully mitigated by the temporal filter solution discussed.
