The optimization problem of actuator placement in the process of large-scale space structure assembly is investigated in this article. A stepwise optimization strategy, based on a hybrid adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm, is proposed. Considering the characteristic of incrementally increasing space structure during assembly, a revival modeling method is presented. Then, the dynamic model of the large-scale space truss structure in the process of on-orbit assembly is developed, which provides a mathematical framework for optimizing actuator placement. A stepwise optimization strategy, to optimize actuator placement for space truss structure assembly, is proposed, and a hybrid adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm is then developed. It is used to optimize the actuator placement of the truss substructure step by step according to assembly. Numerical simulations are finally presented. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed stepwise optimization strategy.
