In this paper, we investigate the channel estimation schemes for tracking fast time-frequency variant channels in IEEE 802.11p systems. To solve the problems of existing techniques where the gain is biased either to low or high signal-to-noise ratios (SNR), we propose a combined strategy that concatenates the conventional state feedback decision method and the noise attenuation schemes based on channel averaging, whose performance gains are generally pronounced in the high and low SNR regions, respectively. The simulation results verify that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional IEEE802.11p channel estimation schemes over all practical SNR range.
