Photorefractive properties of a new kind of polymer composite based on the layered photoconductive polymers PPT-CZs employing rigid backbone of poly(p-phenyleneterephthalate) and pendent carbazole groups are studied. These composites showed an extremely low glass transition temperature T/sub g/ (<0/spl deg/C). When host polymers are mixed with various PR ingredients, the layers are preserved and their layer distance increases, indicating that all the guest molecules are confined to the interlayer space. The photoconductivity of PPT-CZ (n=12) composite is similar to the one observed usually in PVK composites in spite of a much lower concentration of carbazole groups.
