The focus of the present study is the development of a haptic brake pedal for vehicle simulators, capable of reproducing the real braking system feedback without the physical implementation of the related hydraulic circuit, which is mathematically modelled through a coupled mechanicalhydraulic system. The approach main advantage is the system versatility, since it can be easily tuned to be suitable for different vehicle typologies simply acting on some control parameters. A brake pedal prototype has been built carrying out a genetic optimization to find the optimal combination of its geometry to allow the system to have a suitable performance in terms of force and speed given an electric motor. As a future development, the brake system model will be integrated with the brake pedal prototype to force-feedback the pedal in real-time.
