The design and implementation of a distributed transit vehicle information system is presented. The system, which is called Busview, delivers real-time transit vehicle location data to the traveling public via the World Wide Web. The data is presented in graphical format on a variety of display windows. Functionality of the program is described, and innovative features are highlighted. Characteristics of the transit region and bus data availability are discussed. A brief overview of the system architecture is included, along with current usage statistics.
