Summary form only given. I will discuss current and planned experiments in the study of ultrafast material dynamics, where lasers are used to pump, and time-resolved x-ray scattering techniques are used to probe, excited materials. New ultrafast x-ray sources and techniques are being developed, on both small and large laboratory scale, and a number of new facilities will be available for international use,.
