The unsignalized crosswalks are the weakness tache of road traffic safety, and are easily to cause traffic accidents, in urban transportation systems consisting of the human and vehicle, roads and the environment, management and other elements. With the camera and video detector, the information of pedestrians in the typical unsignalized crosswalks in Chongqing is obtained. And the pedestrian crossing speed characteristics of the individual and crowd, different age groups and different sexes are analyzed by the SPSS(Solutions Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Results show that the speed through different lanes are various, and the speed of the elderly is minimum. Finally basic design principles to traffic signals and traffic facilities of unsignalized crosswalks of mountainous city are proposed.
