A star pattern recognition algorithm is described which recovers attitude information by processing data obtained from a modular star sensor (MOSS) mounted on a spacecraft information is obtained by matching the stars detected by the MOSS with those inside a stellar catalogue. The system performance has been evaluated both from the point of view of computation time and error probability. The effect of errors in the MOSS measurements and multiple matches cases are also discussed.<>
