This paper studies vehicle coverage range/ traffic density influence on contention level over vehicle ad-hoc network in highway using optimized link state routing protocol to see its ability to route traffic data and connect vehicles. Contention level generally shows the ability to share assigned bandwidth between nodes and give a clue of bottlenecks that might occur during carrying traffic. Contention level is a key performance indicator that measures the performance of vehicle ad-hoc network under the effect of vehicle coverage range that each vehicle covers at which data can be transmitted and/or received to/from other vehicles or nodes during its movement along the highway, and vehicle traffic density as well. In this study, data is routed using optimized link state routing protocol which control sending data using multiple chosen nodes as relays to connect vehicles in the network.
