We introduce a novel type of electro-optic modulation method using bulk PLZT material based on subwavelength surface electrodes. Due to the small periodicity, the operating voltage can be dramatically reduced. In addition, only the zeroth diffraction order is the propagating order and therefore, the device does not suffer from losses due to diffraction.
