In civil aviation, datalink systems allow a two-way exchange of digital information between flight and ground in a more efficient and reliable way to reduce crew workload and improve data integrity. The airborne datalink system consists of communication management function, datalink applications with human machine interface, and interfaces with other functions and peripherals. As part of the avionics system, the architecture of airborne datalink system is subjected to the avionics framework. This paper studies the existing architecture of airborne datalink system, including federated and integrated avionics system, and proposes the architecture of datalink system in distributed integrated modular avionics. The Architecture Analysis and Design Language (AADL) models of Distributed IMA (DIMA) airborne datalink system are developed as well as the physical mapping. The key factors for architecture consideration are discussed.
