The rapid increase in two wheeler Electric vehicles (EVs) calls for detailed study of traction motors used in EVs. Therefore this paper presents a review of electric motors based on desired characteristics for electric vehicle application. The Characteristics that make Brushless DC motor (BLDC) favorable for EV application are discussed. In this paper analytical design of BLDC of 3Kw for a two-wheeler Electric Vehicle (EV) is presented. Vehicle dynamics is taken into account for designing motor that delivers required power and torque for the traction purpose. The design calculations of geometrical parameters for 3kw BLDC is presented. At the end, the derived analytical configuration of selected BLDC motor is validated with Motor-CAD results in this paper and motor efficiency is also obtained.
