Summary form only given. We have demonstrated higher coupling efficiency InGaAsP single-longitudinal-mode partially corrugated MQW laser diodes (PC-LDs) with an active tapered stripe and chirped grating. The coupling efficiency was improved by 2.5 dB over conventional straight stripe LDs without sacrificing light output efficiency at high temperatures. This performance is promising for the development of cost-effective optical modules.
