Analyzing transfer behavior of public transit passengers is important for improving the public transit system. Using smart card data collected in Shenzhen, China, this paper analyzes the spatial and temporal transfer behavior of public transit passengers from metro to bus. The survival duration model is then used to analyze the time cost for the transfer from metro to bus with investigating the contributing variables including location of the transfer station, passenger flow of the metro station, time when transfer happens, and the type of metro station releasing the transfer passengers. The results show that the above four variables contribute to the time cost of transfer. And the results provide an improved direction of the public transit system.
