We proposed and demonstrated the use of a self-imaging confocal (SIG) cavity to obtain high efficiencies in a simple way with diode-pumped solid-state lasers. The mode of this cavity fits the pumped volume at best, and optimizes the efficiency. The same SIC resonator permits unusual mode profile selection thanks to the use of proper spatial filterings. These ones occur in two intracavity planes for which the transverse fields are connected by a Fourier transform. There exist SIC resonators without internal lens exhibiting the same properties.
