The development of accidents at railway-crossings is closely followed by the phenomenon in the Slovak Republic. When reconstructing railway corridors to 160 km/h, level-crossings are cancelled, leading to a reduction in their number. The ever-increasing share of road transport in the transport market and the increasing speed of individual transport flows require a comprehensive solution to meet the requirements for the quality of the transport system, fluidity, ecology, economy and especially safety. Based on the analysis of incidents at level-crossings on the example of the Slovak Republic in the context of the increase in the degree of motorisation, it is necessary to propose a procedure of measures to reduce the incidence of these accidents on crossings for the road and railway transport system The basic level-crossings categorisation is secure and unsecured. The dependence on the development of the number of crossings, the number of accidents on crossings and the development of the number of motor vehicles is evaluated.
