The waveguide-based directional couplers in As/sub 2/S/sub 3/ glass were fabricated by using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching. Their ultrafast all-optical switching operation was demonstrated at 1.53 /spl mu/m with switching peak power of 55 W.
