This paper establishes performance calculation models of variable cycle engine (VCE) of single bypass mode and double bypass mode, and studies the cruising characteristics of VCE in two modes. The results of the research show that, in subsonic cruise flight conditions, the VCE operates in double bypass mode has better SFC (specific fuel consumption) performance and in supersonic cruise flight conditions, the VCE operates in single bypass mode can generate greater thrust.
