Optical crossconnect and add drop multiplexer (ADM) are key components for realizing future high-capacity and flexible communication networks, such as the "optical fiber freeway". We have proposed and demonstrated the optical crossconnect and ADM using photonic SD and WD switching technologies. With a future study on an all optical network management scheme, a high capacity and flexible optical network would be realized.
