Many cities are now experiencing air pollution episodes in which pollutant levels exceed air quality, in particular nitrogen dioxide which receives a significant contribution from road traffic. An attempt is made to facilitate effective actions by demonstrating control strategies designed to reduce traffic pollution, in the light of advanced transport and communication technologies. These actions will implement environment-oriented traffic control strategies. The design, development and test of pollution-sensitive traffic rerouting strategies are addressed.
