This paper proposes a novel current sensorless drive system with only position sensor for permanent magnet synchronous motor drive in order to reduce costs and avoid problems caused by faults of the current sensor. Generally a pmsm drive controller needs at least two phase-current sensors, in this paper, the current sensors is omitted by replacing estimated stator current with extended kalman filter. A simulation study is performed in order to compare performances with and without current sensor, it shows that the control has almost the same performance and ability as the conventional control.
