This paper presents development of automation system of battery machines of coke ovens using optimized auto schedule. Most of the coke making plant has manual schedule which creates several errors and increases the process time of the plant. Manual schedule involve printed schedule slips which were given to operators and according to schedule operator used to give command to battery machines for their function. Due to manual schedule most of commands for battery machine operation are given by operators, in-spite of machines being highly automated. The automation system propose an optimized auto schedule by process control system which will schedule the charging and discharging sequence of coke ovens by itself without any human intervention. However the provision for changing the schedule by person is provided in the system. Further using this auto schedule coke oven battery machine will perform their function automatically depending on the schedule due to interlocking between them. Proposed system eliminates all the errors caused due to manual schedule system and makes scheduling process paperless. This will reduce machine operator workload and will create comfortable working environment, resulting in increase in overall plant efficiency.
