It is demonstrated that the optical response of semiconductor systems is influenced by various interactions. In detail, it is shown that meaningful calculations of optical nonlinearities in semiconductor structures require to microscopically include Coulomb-induced many-body carrier-correlations. Some distinct signatures induced by correlations in nonlinear optical signals are presented and discussed.
