Magnetic coupled resonance wireless power transfer (MCR-WPT) is a new technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. To ensure efficient and reliable wireless charging in EVs, the key issue lies in the optimization design of the coupling coils. This article provides a systematic review of the structural selection, design, and optimization methods for MCR-WPT coupling coils in current EV charging systems. From the perspective of coil structure, a systematic comparison was made between traditional coil structures, and the coupling characteristics, interoperability, temperature rise, and heat dissipation characteristics of the coils were analyzed. From the perspective of optimization design, discussions were held on multiple aspects such as coil material selection, feature parameter optimization, resonance compensation circuit design, and wireless charging design standards. Finally, a systematic analysis was conducted on the future development and research trends of this technology.
