Statistical parameters of the beat signal of the frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar altimeter in case of scattering from cylindrical rough surface are determined in the Kirchhoff approximation. A concept of the double dimensionality of the beat signal is formulated in this paper. Results of this paper can be used to construct a simple simulation model to assess signal processing algorithms implemented in an FMCW radar altimeter.
