This paper discusses a new signal processing technique for target detection performance improvements in existing airborne early warning radar systems. A new Doppler processing algorithm, called the Doppler domain localized generalized likelihood ratio detector, is considered, and performance compared to the approaches currently in use for weak target detection in severe clutter. It is shown that a significant performance improvement can be achieved by augmenting the existing Doppler and Constant False Alarm Rate signal processors with this new approach.<>
