This article introduces the concept of the smart railroad wagon, modeled from smart components. This concept can meet the safe requirements of the railroad complex system. Indeed, adding features to the railroad wagon reduces the risk of accidents induced by the truck transportation. In this article, the concept and the design of systems for this railroad wagon are also presented and they illustrate the usefulness of this concept in relation with two rail accidents of the 1990s. The proposed design methodology shows a transposition mechanism for the use of shared functions in a functional model.
