According to World Health organization (WHO) global report on Road Safety 2018, India accounts for 11% of the accident-related deaths in the world. India ranks first in total number of deaths due to road accidents followed by China and the US. Although major accidents are due to cars and trucks, the death rate is quiet high in accidents involving bicycles ride by kids and rented bikes. The two main reasons are due to riders riding bicycle in an uncontrollable speed and not using proper safety wears. If there exists a system where parents or the bicycle owners set a speed limit, warn them if when the riders cross it. The other reason for people using bicycle is to be fit. There exist commercially available fitness trackers that help the riders track the calorie burnt and distance travelled. The problem with these fitness trackers is, they are mostly depended on smartphone sensors for acceleration and location. This paper proposes to develop a digital speedometer embedded with safety features such as location tracking, speed warnings and calorie tracker for bicycles. The system can be retrofitted to any bicycle and also has Bluetooth connectivity to share data with mobile phone. This paper discusses the design and architecture of the proposed system. The system was simulated in tinkercad software.
