This paper mainly analyzes the fractal properties which are the foundations of short-term traffic flow forecast. Based on the embedding space theory, state space reconstruction and G-P algorithm, an approach is presented to find the fractal dimension and fractal interval. Then, a series of real time traffic flow data surveyed on a freeway is analyzed by this approach. The results show that the scale has significant effects on fractal dimension and fractal interval, and traffic flow is really the invariability of scale in a certain interval.
