This paper describes the design and fabrication of optical taps, and the extension of this technology to the fabrication of a prototype 4/spl times/4 optoelectronic switch with integrated polyimide waveguides. The performance of the integrated switch will be discussed and compared to a switch using conventional fiber coupling.
