Eccentricity on gear systems is a major nonlinear factor that contributes to the deterioration of the drive and leads to a dynamic transmission error. Transmission error on the gear system is an imprecision aspect between gear and pinion. In this paper, the dynamic response of two-stage spur gears transmission error is analyzed experimentally. LabVIEW with data acquisition interface and proximity sensor was set up to collect experimental data of gearing transmission error. The features of vibration response of lateral displacement were processed by Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and the Time-Frequency Technique by the mean of Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) was implemented to discriminate the fluctuation feature of gear transmission error. The result shows relative cyclic motion caused due to the default geometry and dominancy of the amplitude vibration of transmission error influences stiffness excitation on the spectrum analysis of the extracted vibration signal. Therefore, the frequency spectrum demonstrated significant sideband responses inherent in modulation behaviour due to eccentricity. Additionally, a significant difference in meshing frequency of the gear and dynamic variation in amplitude is slightly higher by 16% in defected gear in contrast to the healthy gear system.
