The Japanese VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) conducts research on an information distribution system for drivers. It also continuously reviews the system. To make the results of its reviews widely understood by the public, the VICS Promotion Council undertook a demonstration in 1993. The demonstration is described, VICS's objectives and the reasons for its establishment are discussed, and the current status of its activities is described.
