Inset dielectric guide (IDG) has become attractive for applications in microwave and millimeter-wave frequency ranges. Various configurations of IDG have been proposed very recently, and investigated theoretically and experimentally. The feasibility of using these quasi-planar structures as low-loss and low-cost transmission lines, directional couplers, nonreciprocal phase shifters, antennas and other devices has been demonstrated. This paper reviews main advantages of different IDG structures and their circuit and antenna applications.
