Zero Resistance Converter System (ZRCS) is an effective method for mitigating stray currents in urban rail transit. However, powering the switch units (SUs) along a narrow metro tunnel can be a challenge. Therefore, this paper proposes the Active Return Traction Power System (AR-TPS). The operational principles and control strategies of AR-TPS are discussed in detail. A simulation-based comparison is conducted between AR-TPS and ZRCS to evaluate their effectiveness in stray current mitigation.
