The following paper aims to study the thermal effects of vortex generators in a transonic field. While the pressure effects have been widely studied, temperature effects are something yet to be explored in detail. This study aims to look into vortex generators as a potential replacement for heatshields in transonic, and subsequently supersonic and hypersonic airfoils, as a cheaper and more efficient alternative. The study consists of a literature review to identify a problem statement, followed by 2D and 3D simulations of various vortex generator shapes to verify the positive trends in temperature variation and shock interactions. Future work is also listed in the report.
