Commercial Vehicle segment in India has been in the shadow of the passenger car segment that has seen visible effort by automobile manufacturers for electrification. To reduce excessive dependence on fossils fuels commercial vehicle segment should focus on the development in electric vehicle technology. The ability of electricity to be produced from renewable sources, ease of transmissibility, cost and availability makes it, in the opinion of the authors, the primary choice as an alternate energy source for vehicles. This paper presents the necessity, benefits and potential for development of hybrid Light Commercial Vehicles.
