On the brink of climate changes, many world leaders started talking about transition towards greener technologies. The electric vehicles seem to be the favorite in the transport field. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the current and expected future driving costs and competitiveness of electric vehicles compared to internal combustion engine ones. Our aim is to find out if electric vehicles are indeed able to take over the market from a practical perspective. Their main drawbacks are presented together with available technologies which could overcome them.
