Launch polarizations excite different modes in commercial-grade multi-mode fiber. By controlling input polarization and monitoring output eye-diagram, 40 Gb/s transmission over 140 m 62.5/125 /spl mu/m fiber is demonstrated using return-to-zero format with readily available single-mode transceivers.
