Using Er-doped fiber and polarization maintaining highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber, ultrabroad supercontinuum is generated. The spectrum expands from 0.9 to 2.7 /spl mu/m, and the bandwidth is over 1.8 /spl mu/m.
