A fully experimental characterization of tilted fiber Bragg gratings has been presented showing good agreement with previously reported theoretical models. Parameters for a slanted grating such as wavelength dependence of the radiation, output angle vs. blaze angle, and spectral radiation losses are presented. Also, four radiation zones have been detected. To our knowledge this is the first time that an experimental characterization of radiation from an side-tap grating (STG) is reported.
