We have characterized ultrabroad-band optical pulses with over-one-octave bandwidth (495-1090 nm) by use of an improved modified-spectral phase interferometry for direct electric-field reconstruction apparatus and compressed the pulses to 3.4-fs (1.56 cycles) by a feedback phase compensation.
