In this paper we describe our conceptual design of an IFE laser driver based on a novel laser material Yb:S-FAP, or Yb/sup 3+/-doped Sr/sub 5/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 3/F. We will report our computer modeling results on the performance and costs of a diode-pumped solid-state laser (DPSSL), as it is anticipated to operate in the context of an inertial fusion energy power plant.<>
