Return loss characteristics are observed in the water immersion test of physical contact (PC) connector with glass-ceramic ferrule (GCF). It is considered that the return loss characteristics strongly depend on variation of refractive indices of core and cladding. In the water immersion test, the penetration of water seems to cause variation of refractive indices. Unique characteristics of return loss in the water immersion tests are explained by means of numerical analyses.
