The interaction of fiber dispersion, chirp and extinction ratio is investigated, and optimal driving condition for directly modulated transmitter at 2.5 Gbit/s is discussed. We experimentally confirmed that the optimum bias condition exists at 1.5/spl sim/1.8 fold above threshold current.
