An FPGA-based signal processing unit for "self-tuning" the hold-off time of a Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode's (GMAP) active quench and reset circuit (AQRC) is presented. This prototype module eliminates afterpulsing effects in a GMAP using a method based on autocorrelation statistics.
