In this paper, we develop basic technology for all optical components used for building (WDM) all-optical switches. We report experimental results related to the emission and response time characteristics of single and a mix of two different types of quantum dots with emission in the visible region. The basic concepts and experiments are much easier to work with when visible light is utilized.
