Ferries, high-speed sea buses and military ships, acquire autonomous driving capabilities. With the advent of autonomy, personnel costs will decrease and the use of ships for transportation, logistics, and tourism will increase. This is likely to lead to increased traffic density in coastal and island areas. In many sea areas, there is no specified speed limit so the captain is responsible for safe navigation speed, taking traffic density, sea/wind conditions, and the suitability and limitations of ship sensors into account. In this study, a safe speed for a Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship is determined by considering account maneuverability, situational awareness, traffic density, and geographical factors using fuzzy logic.
