We report experimental results for the nonlinear refractive index of a CdSSe-doped fiber measured at 1313 nm. The semiconductor is in the form of nano-spherical particles randomly scattered in the glass host. The transmittivity of the fiber with a 7-/spl mu/m diameter, and a l-mm diameter rod of length 25 mm of the core material are shown. They both show a cutoff near 630 nm and a flat response for wavelengths above 700 nm. The 630 nm cutoff corresponds to the band edge of the CdSSe composition.
